Safe Ghosting
Ever heard of ghosting? It’s when you leave a party without saying goodbye – making your friends worried about your safety. As part of Uber’s safety campaign, we decided to change that! All by simply using Uber’s Share Your Trip function.
During a Friday night in Stockholm, we offered people who had ghosted from a party a free ride home.
But in order to redeem this free ride, they had to let their friends know where they were by sharing their trip with them
– and with Stockholm’s biggest billboard.
To get the free ride, ghosters had to write their name and phone number on our staffs’ tablets.
Their name would then be broadcasted live on the billboard and a discount code to Uber was sent to their phone.
This way, we could help their worried friends (and Stockholm) know where their friends were – and make sure the ‘ghosters’ got home safe.
It turns out ghosting is pretty popular! During 3 hours we helped more than 140 ghosters get home safe.
That’s 0.8 ghosts every minute — all served safe rides home by simply using an existing Uber feature.
